COLCHICUM. BIBLE. CHRIST.
1. “Christ is
all and in all” (Col., 3:11). Jesus saith: “Consider the lilies of the field …
even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these” (Mt.,
6:28-29). To see this, indeed, watch the further photos.
2. Every year
in November – in the period of the first light frostlets on the soil – the bulbotubers
of Colchicum to live under the apricot tree in our small garden used to bring
forth the ephemeroid flowers, seen on the photos.
3. Colchicum
is the Old World liliaceous plant, named, as Linnaeus wrote (“Philosophia
botanica”, VII, 235. 5) after the fabulous country of Colchis (near modern
Sochi in Krasnodar Territory at the Black Sea Coast) and its’ king Kolchus (the
keeper of the Golden Fleece). Its’ trivial Russian name is “Bezvremennik” (i.e.
“out-of-time-bloom”), because it is blossoming for some few days just before
the winter.
4. True is
the Bible: “In thy presence is fullness of joy” (Ps. 16:11).
