ICONOCLASM IS
ALIVE!
Press release 238 E
1. On the July 10 the Turkish President Erdogan
signed a decree to convert the museum of Saint Sophia cathedral in Stambul
(Constantinople) into the mosque. The first service took place in it on the
July 24 of 2020.
2. This decree produced a huge ado: the
protests were given on behalf of UNESCO, European Union, the Roman Pope
Francis, the Moscow Patriarch Kyrill, even President of Russia Putin telephoned
to Erdogan about it.
3. The most sharp question of those protests
was the fate of the frescoes on the walls of Saint Sophia. But Erdogan rejected
all the protests.
4. Saint Sophia gave us a splendid lesson: the
Pope, the Moscow Patriarch and other protesters thought that iconoclasm is
dead; but iconoclasm is alive! The second commandment of the Decalogue is
alive: “Thou shalt not make thee graven image, any likeness that in heaven
above, or that in the earth beneath, or that in the waters beneath the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them (5 Moses, 5:8 – 9)”.
5. The iconoclasm is alive! Alleluia!
Maranatha!
